Walk to Cure Psoriasis
Give me money!
Erm… I mean… As I shilled for money a few weeks ago, this is a reshill:[1]
One of my best friends, and perennial drinking buddies, Shawn, recently asked me to join him in the Walk to Cure Psoriasis in Seattle. Shawn has recently become the Community Ambassador for Seattle, for the National Psoriasis Foundation, and this is a cause that means a lot to him, so how could I say no?
Please help me support Shawn by making a donation, or if you’re in Seattle, even considering joining us in the walk! It would mean a lot to both of us!

Thoughts on Distance Learning and Martial Arts -

hoshudojo:

The following are some thoughts about distance learning and martial arts, by Thomas Groendal, the head instructor of Hoshu Dojo in North America, and the instructor at the Portland branch. This essay is primarily focused around studying ZNKR Jodo and Shindo Muso Ryu Jojutsu, but the spirit of the essay can be applied to any martial art.

I live in Seattle, while Tom, my teacher (and author of the essay), lives down in Portland. Distance learning can be challenging, but it is possible if you’re committed. It’s not that bad for us as it’s really about 3 hours travel, so we meet up at least once a month, and are in constant contact on IM or phone; but it is still challenging - especially when I’m learning newer techniques and have no one around to practice with here. But hey, his teacher lives in Japan, so I have it easy compared to that.
